Challenges of kit producers and distributors

A kit is a recipe of volumes and lots, not a fixed bill of materials.

Component volumes depend on reaction count, reaction volume, stock and target concentrations. Operators work gloved at benches and freezers. Every tube needs a label with its lot and expiry date, printed on a local printer. Spreadsheets fill the gaps, until an audit asks which lot went where.

A confirmed order for 20 PCR kits creates the production plan. Volumes come from the dilution formula, the missing primer is purchased, manufacturing orders carry one kit lot, the operator produces on the lab tablet, and the BarTender station prints every label.

Odoo's traceability report follows the lot upstream to its component lots and downstream to each delivery. The configurator stamps the kit lot on every made-to-order component, so the chain is complete.

Each sub-product consumes a fixed volume of the positive-control target plus water back-fill to 500 µL, runs through its own child order and inherits the main kit's lot; shortfalls go to the main purchasing engine.
